The Golden Kite Awards, Vietnam’s version of the Oscars, were held last night in Hanoi, Vietnam. SAIGON ELECTRIC won two awards, the Silver Kite for Best Film (tied with romantic comedy and box office hit LONG RUOI) and newcomer Quỳnh Hoa for Best Actress for her lead role as Kim in the film. This was Hoa’s first film and acting debut! During her acceptance of the award, she also did a quick hip hop dance number on stage. You can view the video here!

Next stop, Toronto! SAIGON ELECTRIC is playing as part of the Toronto Reel Asian Film Fest! One screening only on Friday, 11/11/11! Fortuitous day! Writer-director Stephane Gauger will be in attendance. To purchase advance tickets, click here.

The 15th edition of Reel Asian kicked off on November 8 and runs through the 13 in Toronto, and then moves to Richmond Hill from November 18 – 19. For more information on the Festival, visit the official website.

SAIGON ELECTRIC just won the BEST NARRATIVE FEATURE AWARD at the Philadelphia Asian Film Festival! Writer-director Stephane Gauger was in attendance for the screening and accepted the award, which was announced on Friday, November 4th.

Ending it’s first run in theaters, the film is set for a theatrical tour in the coming months across the country, and a VOD launch in December, so check back here for the full announcement!
